When federal grants dried up, the team at the M.A.D Lab (Marmot Adaptive Dynamics Lab) got creative. In July 2026 they launched OnlyMarms — a cheeky OnlyFans page sharing photos of their wild marmots to keep six decades of alpine field science funded.
The internet did what the internet does: the page went viral. Degens saw the moment and spun up a meme coin, $OnlyMarms, pledging creator royalties straight back to the lab.
In a plot twist worthy of the timeline, lab lead Julien Martin claimed the royalties, endorsed the token, and added it to the lab's fundraising alongside the OnlyFans page — because every burrow needs more than one entrance.
